Koryo (고려)

Seonbi

Ko-ryo represents the spirit of an upright and strong seon-bae (선배).

Seonbae were virtuous Joseon-era scholars who passed up positions of wealth and power to lead lives of study and integrity. A seon-bi was to live a modest life, learn continuously without cessation, and strive to perfect his character not only by gaining knowledge, but by learning and following the rightful path.

Koryo embodies Koryo’s founding principles of restoring Koguryo’s territories and Joseon’s spirit of Seon-bi.

Keumgang (금강)

Keum-gang is the Korean word for diamond. Mt. Keumgang, Diamond Mountain, in modern day North Korea, is regarded as the center of national spirit. Keumgang yoksa, diamond warriors, are legendary heroes.

Poomsae Keumgang symbolizes harness and massiveness. The line of this poomsae is fashioned after the Chinese character for mountain.

Poomsae Tae-baek symbolizes “humanitarian ideal” as thought by Tangun, the founder of the nation of Korean people.

Taebaek is the name of a mountain with the meaning “bright mountain” that is associated with the Tangun.

Sip-jin is the mathematical concept of progressing by 10s from 10 to 100, from 100 to 1000, from 1000 to 10,000, on into infinity.
